I try never to pay full retail if I can avoid it.Joe G Kushnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02454826299896049587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7051805076976022521.post-63470547261944661182010-11-05T14:02:50.327-05:002010-11-05T14:02:50.327-05:00If you've got the gold, you'll buy the bli...If you've got the gold, you'll buy the bling ;)

Btw, you mentioned you were looking for books to fill out an Amazon-order. I can highly recommend Bernard Cornwell's Warlord trilogy. it's a refreshing take on the Arthurian myth, anchored in the historical period where it may have taken place.

If you know Cornwell from the Sharpe-series, fear not, the man can write something else than pulp.Haraldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09864029225698561023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7051805076976022521.post-24831839247748394552010-11-04T23:03:59.460-05:002010-11-04T23:03:59.460-05:00The fast and cheap way was one of the things I was...The fast and cheap way was one of the things I was noting when thinking, why would you ever have these elaborate helms and weapons? Because they are works of art and works of master craftsmen, even if they are older and belong to a different age.Joe G Kushnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02454826299896049587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7051805076976022521.post-15278526769241310032010-11-04T21:55:12.276-05:002010-11-04T21:55:12.276-05:00The early guns were not terribly effective, and mo...The early guns were not terribly effective, and mostly had an effect on morale. In early gunpowder-era settings, I like to view them a little like good steel swords in the Dark Ages - pseudo-magical. The level of craft needed to produce these made them into expensive and highly sought after objects.

As for the spear, shield, and bucket, it's a fast and cheap way of equipping an army, and if there's no heavy horse to bother with, not too bad either.Haraldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09864029225698561023noreply@blogger.com
